THIS TOO IS HEALTHCARE:
BRIDGING THE GAPS

Developing a documentary film about Bridging the Gaps is not only about the finished product being able to communicate the strength of this 35-year-old program to a wider audience...

The documentary uses the story of Bridging the Gaps as a tool to ignite dialogue, collaborations and partnerships among multiple sectors who are working towards optimal health and access for all.

The 65-minute documentary follows an interprofessional group of health profession students as they work with community organizations and confront the realities of health inequity.

Directed by Peabody Award Winner André Robert Lee, narrated by acclaimed actor Wendell Pierce, & music by celebrated composer King Britt from his collaboration with Tyshawn Sorey, the documentary captures the program’s unique ability to foster meaningful connections across diverse cultures & the transformative self-realizations that results.

This Too is Healthcare: Bridging the Gaps

Following its premiere on October 6, 2025 at the 35th Anniversary Symposium of Bridging the Gaps, the documentary is now accepting requests for screenings.

Screenings include the 65-minute runtime, followed by a discussion facilitated by the director, André Robert Lee, with potential to include other discussants from around the BTG Network or from your own community.

What happens when health and social service students learn not just from textbooks, but from the lived experiences of those they serve?

What does it mean to truly serve a community — not just treat its symptoms?

Can an opportunity change a life — or a system?

Knowing his ability to effect change through filmmaking and media, the Bridging the Gaps (BTG) Program approached filmmaker André Robert Lee about making a documentary that tells the story of Bridging the Gaps, a 35 year program linking the training of health and social service professionals with the provision of health related service in under resourced and marginalized communities.
