CHIP Eligibility

 

University of Pennsylvania Students who have completed their first year in the following schools are eligible to participate in the Bridging the Gaps Community Health Internship Program:​

  • School of Dental Medicine

  • School of Medicine

  • School of Nursing

  • School of Social Policy and Practice

  • School of Veterinary Medicine

  • Graduate Program in Public Health Studies and Law School at times have qualified to participate

​

Dental Students: Successful completion of the seven-week Community Health Internship Program provides academic credit for the Selective Program.

​

Medical Students: Successful completion of the seven-week Community Health Internship Program is noted on the medical students' transcripts and meets partial certificate requirement for: Bridging the Gaps Community Health Scholar; Community Health: IMPaCT Program; Global Health; Public Health in Medicine. Additionally, BTG CHIP satisfies Primary Care Pathway community requirement & Master of Public Health fieldwork requirement.

Nursing Students: Successful completion of the first clinical nursing course is an eligibility requirement.

​

Social Work Students: Successful completion of the seven-week Community Health Internship Program provides extracurricular service learning that includes working on a team, learning about interprofessional health and community-based health promotion.

​

Veterinary Students: Students interested should contact Brittany Watson to discuss the program and will apply through the scholarship committee. Independent credit is available.

​

ALL Disciplines: BTG satisfies coursework requirements for the University-wide Community Engaged STEM Certificate. Click here for more information about this certificate.

Any student completing or planning to complete the MPH, please reach out to Nekia Rosado,  (Nekia.Rosado@Pennmedicine.upenn.edu) to ensure your BTG placement meets the field placement requirements.
